Tai Chi is an internal Chinese martial art practiced for both its defence training and its health benefits. Though originally conceived as a martial art, it is also typically practiced for a variety of other personal reasons: competitive wrestling in the format of pushing hands (Tui Shou), demonstration competitions, and achieving greater longevity. As a result, a multitude of training forms exist, both traditional and modern, which correspond to those aims with differing emphasis. Some training forms of tai chi are especially known for being practiced with relatively slow movements.
What we do in this class:
Studies have shown that Tai Chi can help to reduce stress, improve posture, balance and general mobility, and increase muscle strength in the legs.
Schedule
We currently have two weekly classes and the option of a four week programme. To book your place on either of the Saturday workshops or to find out more about learning the form or to arrange a time to talk with Roy please email dexteritydojo@gmail.com.
Tai Chi for personal transformation
Saturday 15:00-15:45
A 45 minute workshop for those who have learnt the entire 24 posture form. In this session we develop a deeper understanding not only of the choreography of Tai Chi but also how to use the principles to manage our mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Each week we focus on one or two postures in detail as well as unpacking the artistry, alchemy, applied psychology and personal mastery that is contained within this ancient marriage of art and science, movement and mindfulness.
