Roy Leighton
Tai Chi
Roy has designed Tai Chi and wellbeing programmes for Dexterity that provide the following benefits to those who attend: greater relaxation, reduced stress, improved health, inner calm, improved confidence, self defence and greater ability to smoothly deal with change and life challenges.
Roy is a qualified instructor in the Yang Style 24 posture compact form. He was first introduced to Tai Chi whilst studying as an actor at The Bristol Old Vic (1979 – 1982). His interest in Physical Theatre and Martial Arts led him to study with The Suzuki Company of Toga in the mountains of North Japan.
His training with Suzuki drew heavily from traditional Martial Arts and Samurai training. This fusion of traditional practices explored through the lens of contemporary science, psychology and social sciences focused as much on understanding the emotional, spiritual and intellectual elements of martial arts and personal mastery as it did on the detailed choreography of this most ancient of martial arts.
