Dexterity RAGE at Greatest Dancer

Dexterity compete in The Greatest Dancer on BBC One

Dance squad make it to the Call Backs stage before bowing out

NEC Birmingham, January 26th, 2019: Students from Northamptonshire – based Dance School Dexterity are celebrating having made it as far as the Call Backs stage when the final nine acts are selected to go forward to the next stage of the hit BBC One show The Greatest Dancer.

A creation of Simon Cowell (X Factor), The Greatest Dancer is an exciting new dance competition for Saturday nights on BBC One. Open to ages 7 upwards, the show is a celebration of dance in all its forms, with performances ranging from solo amateur dancers to large professionally-trained dance troupes.

Open auditions were held in London in July 2018, with the filmed segment of the show being recorded prior to Christmas. Those selected then went on to perform in a specially-built Dance Studio in Birmingham’s NEC where each dance act performed in front of a mirror wall with a studio audience watching on the other side.

If 75% of the audience liked what they saw, the mirrors open, and the dancers went through to the next stage of the competition – the Call Backs. The RAGE dance squad from Dexterity beat hundreds of hopefuls to reach the Call Back stage, which was aired on Saturday night national television (26th January). They performed a specially choreographed acrobatic and contemporary dance routine, judged by Dance Captains Cheryl, Matthew Morrison & Oti Mabuse. On the night, they made it as far as the selection for the final 9 acts, before finally bowing out.

Dexterity’s Dance squad for the show comprised 6 senior students who have been dancing with the school for over 6 years.  Dance captain Aidan Marshall said “it’s been an amazing experience for all of us. We have a passion for dance and just to have got this far in such a major national show was unforgettable”.

Dexterity Principal, Estha Jones, who also watched them as part of the studio audience said “Words cannot express how proud I am of them. Watching them perform reminds me of how far they have come in a few years, and the huge potential they have for the future”.
